News Desk (By Chinmayee Dash): Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, who has in the news for the last two days, has impressed everyone during her meeting with Indian leaders. Her visit is being termed as “Dating with India”.

The 34-year-old Hina is the youngest and first woman foreign minister of Pakistan. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari had justified her appointment, saying it would “send positive signals about the soft image of Pakistan” through Hina.

Media of course focused on the talks between Hina and leaders, but her elegant looks, style, cloth and gestures are more highlighted. For the second time a Pakistani woman was more appreciated and she held the media attention after the charismatic female Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Hina’s headscarf-wearing, watch and Sunglass are rightly reminding Indian people of Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007 when trying to regain the power.

Both the personalities come from Pakistan’s leading political and business families. Hina’s father is a large landowner from Muzaffargarh and her uncle Ghulam Mustafa Kar was the subject of “My Feudal Lord”, penned by his fifth wife Tehmina Durrani.

She hails from a wealthy feudal family in southern Punjab and owns Lahore’s posh Polo Lounge. She is also fond of playing polo and trekking.

Hina holds a postgraduate degree in hospitality and tourism from the University of Massachusetts. She entered politics in 2002 and became a member of national assembly of the PML-Q party.

She became Pakistan’s 26th foreign minister replacing Shah Mahmood Qureshi on July 20, 2011 during a period when Pakistan is struggling to make patch on its lost image due to growing terrorism and Jihad.

Even the relationship with the US is going worst day by day after the killing of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden. However, Hina emerges as a ray of hope to make everything in order.

Hina is married to businessman Feroze Gulzar and they have two sons and a daughter. She keeps keen interest in fashion and is fond of carrying Birkin bag during her trips abroad.

Hina Rabbani Khar (Urdu: ??? ????? ??? ) (born 1977, Multan) is a Pakistani member of parliament, affiliated with the PPP. She served as the State Minister for Economic Affairs and Statistics as National Assembly member of PML-Q in 2003-2007. Hina Rabbani Khar is daughter of politician Ghulam Noor Rabbani Khar and niece of Ghulam Mustafa Khar.

Khar received a B.Sc. in Economics from Lahore University of Management Sciences in 1999 and went on to earn a M.Sc. in Management from the University of Massachusetts in 2001. In 2008, she was named to the World Economic Forum’s list of young global leaders.^[4] In 2008, Hina was elected as a member of National Assembly with a ticket from PPP from the constituency of Muzaffargarh, Punjab.

Hina Rabbani Khar is Pakistan’s State Minister for Economic Affairs. The State Ministers report directly to the Prime Minister and hold specific portfolios. In Hina’s case, she is responsible for international (multilateral and bilateral) grants and loans. Her Ministry is the official signatory for any project that is launched in Pakistan with foreign financial assistance. Her father, Ghulam Rabbani Khar, drove Hina’s entry into politics, setting her on a different path from the hotel management career she had been pursuing with great zeal. A graduate from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Hina also holds a Masters from the University of Massachusetts. She is also one of the owners of the Polo Lounge, an upscale, popular restaurant located on the Lahore Polo Grounds.

Meeting Hina was a refreshing experience on many levels: she is articulate, brilliant, enterprising, and very far-sighted for her age (not even 30 yet!). Moreover, she is humble, approachable, professional, and knows her job very well. We were able to call her on her cell phone and set up a meeting directly without having to go through her administrative staff, and she was there before we reached our meeting venue. At the end of the day, if we have more people like her in our government, perhaps Pakistan’s positive image won’t need any marketing beyond simply introducing them to the world!
